United took the lead five minutes before the interval when Wayne Rooney just got in front of Joleon Lescott to reach Edwin van der Sar's long punt downfield and helped the ball on to Ryan Giggs. The Welshman wasted no time in pushing the ball on to Nani, whose first touch took him away from Pablo Zabaleta allowing him to race forwards and beat Joe Hart with a clinical finish. It took a huge slice of luck for City to grab an equaliser on 65 minutes. Edin Dzeko's shot from Shaun Wright-Phillips' cross was going well wide of the goal when it struck David Silva on the back, the deflection leaving Edwin van der Sar totally helpless. Sir Alex Ferguson's men won it in spectacular fashion when Rooney scored a breathtaking overhead kick 12 minutes from time to extend United's lead to seven points at the top of the Barclays Premier League.
